The Good News or The Good News!
The bottle of fizz on ice has been joyously cracked open and we are full of excitement to share with you that we have set our opening date!
We will be throwing our doors open come rain or shine, sleep or no sleep on Tuesday 3rd April even if we have another unseasonal dump of snow again!
It’s been a long time coming for many, many reasons but that’s a story for a different day. For now, we are very grateful you have stayed the course with us, showed us amazing support and lifted us when we’ve winced at sharing another ‘coming soon blog’… but now It’s Showtime!
We formally received our completion certificate for the extension building works a couple of weeks ago and after taking a few minutes to breathe, celebrate and release frustrations, it was straight into organising a series of testing play sessions to put us through our paces…and they certainly did that. We needed to give our Play Makers the opportunity to put into practice our play programme of drama inspired activities, the practicalities of performing them whilst being on hand to join in with play when invited and find small moments to extend play. The ‘real’ context and the feedback from children and parents has been fantastic but also showed where some changes are needed. You might have seen some of the lovely reviews on our Facebook page.
Our fabulous consultant Chef, MamaLisa, who helped us create our menu has been in the kitchen with our chef team to demonstrate the dishes from our menu and set the tone for the standard of quality, delicious food we want to offer. It’s been quite the distraction with the swathes of gorgeous smells wafting from the kitchen, and we’re all a few pounds heavier as of course we have to taste the dishes coming out of the kitchen! During different testing play sessions, the kitchen cooked some delicious food and put out these dishes for visitors to taste and share their thoughts.
Our Front of House staff have offered a warm welcome and served up all manner of lovely coffees; we lose track of the variations I think the last one I tried was a frothy chocomoccalattecapucinnos, skinny, in a tall glass with one shot!
Our wonderful Play Makers have been fantastic play hosts, bringing The Village alive with their drama inspired songs and activities and where the opportunity has arose joining in with play which the children and grown-ups seem to have enjoyed.
Pinch ourselves moments…
There have been many pinch ourselves moment, but the best feeling was to finally welcome and share The Play Village with little adventurers happily playing; they took no time at all in ‘owning their village’, flexing their imaginary muscles and throwing themselves into all kinds of role play characters. We would love to be in the minds of the little ones when they come for the first time just to see The Play Village through their eyes. Going round on our hands and knees (we have many times) just doesn’t have the same effect!
The past couple of weeks have been some of the most important dates in our diary for our team and for us to share the Play Village, hear what our visitors say on how we can improve whether it’s the food we offer, the hosted play sessions or something as simple as how user friendly our booking system is. The feedback has been amazing which has been lovely to hear, but the views on improvements and what would make a difference to their visit the next time has been the most valuable to us.
How to book a visit…
The next question we know will be hot on your lips will be how can we book a visit?
For those of you who perhaps haven’t seen some very early blogs, we will be running three hosted play sessions each day for 2.5hrs that you will be able to pre-book on via our online booking system. In order to make sure the children’s play experience is as comfortable as possible the number of spaces on each play session will be limited to prevent over-crowding; please do book as early as possible if you want to visit us soon.
Our online booking system and our new full website will be launched first thing on Wednesday 28th March so you will be able to book your visit then. We will be sharing more about our play sessions and the role of our Play Makers here at The Play Village as well the dishes we will be offering on our menu over the next week, but for now the good and important news is we are opening very soon!
The cost of a visit… the full range of costs will be explained on the website and booking system from Wednesday 28thth March but for now the basic details we know you are keen to know are as follows:
Non Walkers / Crawlers = £4.00
Confident Walkers = £8.95
We do not charge admission for adults.
Just in time for the Easter Holidays…
We believe that we have created possibly the first genuine luxury children’s play attraction; and in just a few days we will be opening our doors to welcome you all. We are as serious as it gets about the quality of play, the quality of experience and the small and big things that will make all the difference to your visit. We believe that the parents and grown-ups are equally important as the children and we hope that our bistro and seating area, amongst other things, reflects this. We aim to set a new standard for the quality of play facilities in the UK and break the traditional moulds.
We are excited to see you all very soon.
