It’s been way too long since we shared a much anticipated update with you, we know. It’s not been our intention to keep you in the dark, we have been completely absorbed with all that comes with completing the build works and focusing all our energy on preparing to open. We wanted to wait to update you when we have an opening date to share but appreciate lots of you want to hear some news from us now.
So, where are we?
Well…every day for the past few months has been a hive of activity from contractors, electricians, fitters all working hard to help us get ready for opening. We won’t beat around the bush; we are a little bit behind but, the finishing line is a shake of a lamb’s tail away! We have turned a bit progress corner and all of their hard work is shortly coming to an end over the next week or so and we can move onto smartening up the car park from this lovely but very messy lot.
The Village Green Bistro
The fitters have done an incredible job on our beautiful grown up Bistro that fits like a glove with the quality of The Play Village. It looks fantastic! With families of our own, we know it can be all about the children and whilst their experience will always be at the heart of what we do, so is yours. With cosy leather chesterfield sofas to sink into and bespoke made tables to share a meal, we hope to have created an atmospheric space with a pinch of luxury that you can enjoy some grown up time in. We’ll share some updated pictures with you shortly once we get all the toolboxes, ladders etc out the way.
Wifi & Great Coffee
We have rediscovered the joys of a good signal and internet connection these past couple of days as our new dedicated fibre optic cable was connected… the little things, we know! There will be no need to stand on a chair upside down in the corner of the Bistro to get a signal or connection. Our new heating and air conditioning system means we no longer need to wear thermals and big bother boots, and finally our trusty kettle covered in paint and plaster has been demoted for our fancy new coffee machine which has had a good bit of frothy coffee sampling this week. It was time for that!
Our Play Maker Team
Since the first week of January, we have had the pleasure of training and inducting our incredible team of Play Makers who are quite simply a talented and lovely bunch. All of our staff have been trained in Paediatric First Aid, Fire Safety, Food Hygiene, Infection Control, Health & Safety, Safeguarding and all manner of other training – we really do want our staff to be fully equipped to deliver the very best possible service to our visitors. However the real joy has been watching the team throw themselves into practising and perfecting the songs, dances, drama and activities for our play programme all designed to light up your child’s imagination as they play.
Our Front of House & Bistro Team
Now that the Bistro has been fitted, our team grows a little bit more as the Front of House & Kitchen Team come on board for their induction next week as we get prepared for serving you fresh food from our delicious menu or warmly assisting you before and during your visit. We have been incredibly lucky to have recruited what we think are a talented, energetic and warm team and we can’t wait to get cracking new week and for you to soon meet them and sample our menu.
So…can we share an opening date?
In short, not just yet. We genuinely can’t set that date until we have full confidence and the seal of approval from our final building inspection and as soon as we have that, you’ll be the first to know as we type with one hand and a glass of bubbly in the other (and it’s on ice). However, we are over the ‘hump’ as they say, the intensity of the building works has lifted, we have turned a huge corner and we will keep you updated regularly from here on in.
As Always, thank you…
As always, we thank you for the incredible support you have shown us and your patience while we have focused on preparing our staff and finishing off the building works. The coffee machine is running on overtime, we’ve got match sticks to prop our eye lids open if we need to (or worse we’ll turn the heating off!). We are coming, and we are opening very, very soon.
