Our Play Sessions

How our play sessions run

We offer 3 play sessions every day of the week with each session lasting 2.5hrs.  In between each session we take half an hour to completely close The Play Village and Village Bistro to down tools (well…play food, hard hats, hairdryers, shopping baskets etc) so we can get ship shape again ready for our visitors in the next session to enjoy. You can book onto anyone of our play sessions via our online booking system, and as a gentle nudge please do pre-book as we can not guarantee on the day availability.  We get fully booked rather quickly as we have a strict limit on the number of children playing and families visiting us at anyone time in our play sessions so they have the freedom to play and explore all role play areas.

What to expect during our play sessions

Well…expect us to be playful, whimsical, warm and seriously busy making the few hours you spend with us fun and enjoyable.  Our staff are wonderful, caring hosts who take great pride in brightening up any of our visitor’s day.

Your arrival

Upon arrival you and your family will be greeted with warmth by our team with friendly smiles from our Manager, Character Performers and Bistro Hosts as we check you in for your play session. Our Character Performers will open the gate to the Play Village and show you to the Bistro where you can to take a seat, settle in and flip off your shoes. Shortly after the play session begins our doors will close and our Performers will invite children to the Village Green for a big ‘Hello’ and a welcome song, where they will also take a few minutes to introduce themselves and let children know they too are excited to play. For those children who love songs, movement and drama, the Performers will set the scene of a ‘story in the Village that week’ and plant the seed that they may need a little bit of help later on. Without further a do, it’s time for 2.5 hours of free play, discover and exploration of all the Play Village has to offer.

Families often ask if they are able to arrive earlier or stay on after their play session to eat in our Village Bistro. As we are often fully booked for our play sessions, unfortunately we are unable to accommodate families who would like to arrive early to have a bite to eat or stay on after their 2.5 hour play.  We close The Play Village completely for 30 minutes in between each session to clean, tidy and ‘reset’ our beautiful Play Village for little explorers (and grown ups) in the next play session to enjoy as if it was the first of the day. If you are planning to enjoy the food from our menu and recharge the batteries, it’s helpful to know that our Village Bistro takes last food orders 45 minutes before the end of each play session with food arriving approximately 10-15 minutes after placing an order.

During your play session

Throughout your stay and the hustle and bustle of Play Village life, our Character Performers love nothing more than being invited to play alongside children and embrace the small, opportune moments to extend their imaginary playful learning with many of the activities and ideas they have up their sleeve.

Skilled in the art of imaginary adventures, from time to time, they will re-ignite the ‘Village story’ and in playful character initiate a drama inspired activity or game that children can choose to join in with…that’s if they are not too busy in the very serious business of role play. To ensure the play areas stay safe during play, they will discretely tidy up and return toys to each role play area so they can continue to be played with and enjoyed.

Freely explore & play

Nowhere is off bounds to explore and play, The Children’s Play Village is here for adventurers growing in independence who thrive on stretching their imaginary muscles. Children of all different ages can enjoy what we offer here, some children love inviting their parents or Performers to play, others become blissfully lost in their own world of imaginary play. Children are free to follow their own interests and dive in and out of each role play area, and spend as much or as little time as they like with any of what looks to be spontaneous drama activities.

Until the next time

When play is nearing to an end, our Village Characters will let children know it’s nearly time to go until the next time and bring the play session to a close with our ‘Tidy up Song & Goodbye’ for a fond farewell until the next time we meet.
